Liverpool FM26 Team Guide – Title Winners and the Next Great Rebuild

Life After Klopp

Welcome to the Liverpool FM26 team guide! It’s the second season for Arne Slot and the guys after Klopp. It’s a big change losing a manager that embraced the whole club, but life goes on.

As title holders it’s time to defend the title. The recruitment over the summer was exceptional with Wirtz and Isak coming. This shows ambition, and I like it.

Liverpool FM26 Club Overview

So this is our first stop for the Liverpool FM26 team guide, the club overview. After our Man United FM26 guide, it seemed natural to do the Liverpool one. This is where we will look at what the board and supporter objectives, what cups we are challenging for and the club history.

Looking at the board culture they want attacking football, develop players using the club’s youth system and sign players under 23 for the first team. The fans on the other hand want to develop player using the club’s youth academy play attacking football and play entertaining football.

For the purpose of the Liverpool FM26 team guide we are going to break these down. Both the board and the fans want attacking football which means we have a choice to make, gegenpress or tiki taka. They are the two attacking tactical styles that are available. This also links into the fans wanting entertaining football.

The next item that both the board and fans want is developing players using the club’s youth system. This can be easy or can be hard, but the easy way is to introduce a couple of youngsters into the first team squad and rotate them in.

Liverpool FM26 Squad Guide

Key Players

In a team full of superstars these are the superstars, the top players, the game winners. As a result these are the players we will build the team around as foundation in our Liverpool FM26 team guide. The obvious star is Salah, the talisman of Liverpool and a driving force.

There is definitely a bias towards the attack in Liverpool’s transfer policy, look at the number of attacking midfielders. We have Salah on the right, Wirtz in the middle and Isak on the left, with support from Mac Allister. That is is some midfield to contend with and the amount of creativity available.

The other key players in the team is big Virgil and Alisson, we are in safe hands at the back. The team is looking more and more like a 4231 or a 433, both of which fit a gegenpress and are solid formations.

Best Youth Prospects

Let’s move on to the youth prospects in our Liverpool FM26 team guide. We have some exciting players here, just look at Rio and Kerkez, that left channel is in safe hands. The youth team is indicating much the same as the first team with a 433 or a 4231. This is great as we have a shape to work with throughout the squad.

Squad Depth by Position

In terms of squad depth the Liverpool is in a really good position and it’s well distributed among the first team and younger players. There is plenty of rotation over the course of the season and that will give everyone a chance to prove themselves.

The only problem position I can see is the AMR. Salah is magnificent, but if he is to be suspended or injured there isn’t a decent natural AMR. This is an area to focus on.

Liverpool FM26 Wonderkids & Young Talents

I think the message is clear when it comes to the wonderkids in the Liverpool FM26 team guide. The list is pretty comprehensive:

  • Jayden Danns
  • Rio Ngumoha
  • Kieran Morrison
  • Trey Nyoni
  • Stefan Bajcetic
  • Giovanni Leoni

These guys seem to be very talented. Rio and Leoni are around the squad already, so you want to keep them there. Rotate them in against the lower teams and when you are winning well.

The rest of the list I would loan out to clubs which are to their level, try and get them in the first teams. Once they have had a full season look at the development and make the decision to keep or not.

Liverpool FM26 Tactics & Best Formation

This is where the magic happens for the Liverpool FM26 team guide! We put together all the data we have spoken about above and make some decisions.

Starting with the formation it couldn’t get any easier, it’s a 433. The reason I went for the 433 over the 4231 is the amount of MCs we have and their secondary positions. Plus I think our in possession transitions would benefit the players we have. I want Mac Allister and Wirtz pushing into that AMC position together.

I’ve elected the Gegenpress tactical style as our strategy because of the attacking football the board and supporters want. This also provides entertaining football through the sheer tempo that we play at.

The roles to look out for here are the advanced playmakers. The wingers will stretch the play, the forward will drop deep and drag a defender. The advanced playmakers are there in the danger zone and creating high xG chances.

Positions to Strengthen

There isn’t a lot to say in terms of new signings, there is a complete team here. I would look at a future replacement for Salah. Our idea in the Liverpool FM26 team guide would be a succession plan rather than replacing him straight away.

Potential Signings

In terms of replacements, who do you replace Salah with? An interesting choice would be Minteh from Brighton, Rodrygo from Real Madrid and another name in the frame is Olise. All are very good choices for different reasons.

Liverpool FM26 Save Challenges

So using this Liverpool FM26 team guide I hope you would have some aspirations to take Liverpool further such as:

  • Go unbeaten like the Arsenal Invincibles.
  • Focus on youth-only policy.
  • Break the goal record in the Premier League.

Conclusion

Liverpool are FUN! They are fun because they have so many attackers options and ways of scoring. If you don’t like scoring goals, then I don’t think Liverpool is for you, but who doesn’t like goals?

I played half a season just to get a feel for the team and see how it would perform. The table below answers that question, 39 goals in 17 games and losing only 1 game. Isak was immense (Sorry, Newcastle fans!).
