Luton Town maybe the hardest the hardest challenge in the EPL on FM24. They are predicted 20th, so we are already fighting against the tide.
Welcome to the next part of the first season series on FM24. In this guide we finish the first season of each Premier League team and analyse how the season has gone. This is just a guide of what we have done and suggestions that we can offer you, to manage the team.
This is the conclusion of our first season with Luton Town on FM24. In the last episode the left Luton Town in 11th in the Premier League. Riding high some would say, the rest of the season providing some ups and downs. The main objective was to avoid relegation and get a foothold in the Premier League to build a future. If we stayed in 11th we would have achieved it.
In this guide we are going to:
- Look at the end of season league performance and individual performances.
- We will look at the tactics which have been used.
- Where the team will go next.

Luton Town Results
In this section we speak about the success of the team. This is regarding the objectives which we were first set, through to the competitions we were in and how we fared.
”In the Premier League, you never know who is going to win or who will be champions. It is always a surprise.”
– Neymar
On to Luton Town, we had a fantastic season finishing 9th in the EPL and only two points behind 7th. This will give a us a great platform to push on to and help us win the league. We had some great results over the season, especially the run where we beat Chelsea and Man City.
I am really pleased with how the team performed. There are a lot of new players at the club on FM24 when you first join. This takes a lot of patience letting the team gel, as a result we did not buy another in January. The war chest was a mighty £2m in January so there was no real budget for adequate replacements.
Looking at the league table, you can see that we deserved to finish mid table. Our goal difference was in single figures meaning our goals for and against were fairly even, typical for mid table. We won more than we lost, so we obviously would finish in the top half, but when you look we rarely drew, meaning this was feast or famine each game.
I was impressed with how goals we scored, the defence on the other hand needs to be worked on. While 58 goals is good, we lost out by conceding so many goals. One thing which is noticeable is that there are so many poor teams in this division, 13th only just scraped 41 points and the goal differences are awful.
Individual Performance
In this section we look at the performances across the team. We will look at the stand out players and the weaknesses in the squad on FM24. We can see different key performance indicators which will indicator the performance levels in the team.
While I am biased, I really have enjoyed the challenge that Luton Town has presented on FM24. I’m not a supporter, I am an admirer of the underdog. This team went into the season as the underdog, but came out as one of the big dogs. We weren’t far from Europe, which is an amazing achievement for a team like this.
Looking at the team stats, we had some terrible passing players. Woodrow, Ogbene, Barkley, Giles and Doughty all missed the 85% passing accuracy benchmark. They are all attackers, giving the ball away at the most vital time in the attacking third. Even so, there are some very good average ratings in the team after a good season.
In the Xg chart, we can see that a number of players outshined the Xg. Adebayo, Giles, Lokonga and Woodrow all outperformed the expected goals and put in great performances. This is great as at least three could be on the pitch at the same time as Woodrow and Adebayo cannot both play.
Luton Town Tactics
In this section we look at the tactics that were used for the season. This is more of an update on the tactics that we used and if there was any changes during the course of the season.
This tactic was marvellous for Luton Town. Originally I designed it to get the ball down the wings and get crosses into Adebayo who would nod them in the net. What has actually happened is that the wingers have run the show. They score and assist while the attacking midfielder chips in too. It has become quite the attacking formation, we just need a proven striker at the top of the formation.
The biggest let down is the defence. I thought the back four and DM would have been solid enough, but we have conceded so many goals. Going to a solid line rather than having a covering and stopper in the centre may help. Also changing the anchor for a DM with a defensive role, meaning that they hold the position and keep the shape.
Conclusion
It has been a brilliant journey with Luton Town on FM24. We have really surpassed the expectations this season and built a foundation for the club in the future. I will be continuing this save until we win the Premier League and posting it a series on this site. We also had some great with the stadium, that is something to look forward to for next season.
The strength in this turned out to be the forwards, we scored so many goals this year for a minnow. We had the right types of player in the team, we actually built the tactic around them. The weakness is the defence, it is terrible and has cost us a number of games and league positions in the end.
The opportunity in this team is the forward positions. What I mean by this is that with average players we have achieved amazing things, imagine if we replaced them with better players in each role?! The threat of this team, is that if we change the team too much then we could lose all the good progress we have made.
