Liverpool Results

First things first, this has been one of the most competitive seasons I have had on FM24 so far. Liverpool have a hugely entertaining team and went on to win 29 games from the 38, that is a 76% win rate. Man City kept up with us for the whole season. If you look back to the previous guide you will see that we had a slight advantage, but they had games in hand due to the World Club Cup.

This has been one hell of an impressive season with the number of goals that we have scored, we hit the century and more. We nearly averaged 3 goals a goals and conceded just under 1 a game. As a result the goal was +77 and the highest in the league. So far the keep performance indicators show why we won the league.

Looking at the Xg data is sometimes misleading, just because you have created more chances does not mean that you will score more. That is a numbers game approach for the hard working. Creating less, but of a better quality, ie better positions will create a higher Xg and in turn highlight quality players.

Individual Performance

Now this is where the magic happens, this is where we highlight the best players in the Liverpool squad as well as the weak links. We will keep this obvious stats like the Xg and pass completion stats, but there is decent data here for forwards using the Xg, shots on target and goals.

The great thing about the screen shot below is the amount of players that are playing above a 7 average rating. This is a good indicator the each player is doing his job and that the tactic is well suited and balanced. To finish a season on 7.2 and above is really special and shows the quality of this Liverpool team on FM24.

Let’s look closer into the stats, using the Xg we can gauge the quality of our players at scoring. Diogo Jota is doing an amazing job with a 4 goal difference, but when you compare him to Darwin Nunez who is doing a 6 goal difference. we are seeing a higher class. This is an easy gauge of players that score goals where the probability is lower on the pitch.

Another interesting find is that Joe Gomez has a much higher goal tally than what is expected of his positioning. Just because his ratio is better the other players does not mean we should put him up front, but it would be interesting to see how he scored those goals.

Liverpool Tactics

This is the part that everyone looks forward to, the Liverpool FC tactics FM24. So nothing has really changed in regards to the tactic itself, it has been effective since day one. What we have done though, is learn why the tactic has been very effective.

Two key stats have presented themselves to us:

  • One is that we press with the most intensity.
  • The second is that we have a lot of successful crosses to score.

Looking at the diagram below, we can see that 4 of top pressing teams finished in the top 6. This highlights how important pressing is in the modern Premier League. This is why I favour the gegenpress strategy over other strategies. It’s about creating a counter further up the pitch and putting pressure on the possession based teams.

The other data is that we are superior at crossing compared with other teams. It’s a crazy stats, as we were not aiming for that approach. The full backs are the ones doing the heavy lifting here. Both Trent and Robertson do a fantastic job of finding their targets, especially as there can be up to 5 in the box.

Get started with Luton Town today

This season has been incredible, I actually thought that it would take 2-3 seasons to win the league. Completing a treble in the EPL, Europa League and League Cup was a nice finish.

The attacking nature of this team is even more potent than I thought. You have Nunez who is a world class talent being backed up by Luiz and Salah. Gakpo and Jota have performed really well too. There are so many attacking options, which is what I wanted to use to our strength in the tactic.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable FM24 save game, although it is a shame it is over already. Liverpool are a relatively easy squad to start with, they have some obvious talent in terms of attacking and entertaining football. As you can see there is a lot of success to be had here.
