How to rebuild Crystal Palace Season 2

So we are onto the second season of the Crystal Palace rebuild on FM24. The first season was a success in my eyes, we managed to get 10th in the Premier League after a shocker of a start. What we will do in this guide is look at the previous season and how we push on with the rebuild.

This season is where we get our full transfer budget and are able to move players on. The first season can be restrictive without a transfer budget and with players that were bought before you start the game. I want to aim to qualify for Europe this season through the EPL, something that is achievable with the squad we have.

Crystal Palace Objectives

So the objectives this season for this rebuild with Crystal Palace on FM24 have not changed. The board and the supporters still want the same things, they want us to develop the youth using the club’s facilities. They also want to to stay within the wage budget and expand the reputation of the club.

This is an interesting set of objectives for growing the club.

So the plan for the team on the back of the objectives is to let the over 30 year olds go as soon as possible. Fortunately all, but Sam Johnstone are out of contract at the end of the season. This means that we will free up £205k in wages and can freshen up the team. As well as this the board have given us £50m to spend and increased the wage budget by £150k.

It means we will need two AMLs, two DRs and a centre back. This also ties into the fact we need to focus on our defence as we leaked over 60 goals in the Premier League last year.

So to summarise, our objectives for this rebuild are:

• Move on the over 30 year old players and focus on youth players.
• Look to strengthen the defence after leaking so many goals.
• Prepare the club to focus on youth development.

Recruitment Rebuild

So how are we going to rebuild this Crystal Palace team on FM24? We have a number of strategies that could help with this team based around recruiting youngsters.

What we could go for the simple approach of buying players with high potential that the scouts have found.

We could go for a performance based approach with a filter based on age on the scouting page.

I think if we look at performance data such as win rates and then use a filter of ages between 20-22 then this will help us grow as a team and also work within our budget and objectives.

If we buy peak players over 24 we are in the market with the super clubs and will get priced out of most deals we encounter. If we go for players under 20 then yes they will be cheaper, but the risk of not hitting their potential will be higher.

Current Performance

So for this FM24 rebuild to work with Crystal Palace we need to see where the club is right now. We need to analyse our strengths and weaknesses and what to do about them. Let’s look at the data and make a plan.

So what we can see from the table is that we were 19 points away from qualifying for Europe. This is only 6 wins and a draw away, and they way in which we improve this by investing in our defence and attack.

If you add 10 more goals to your team, you will on average win 2.3 more goals over the season. If you concede 10 goals less, then you will improve by 2.6 wins over the course of the season. This shows you how we can make up the difference.

If we are looking for win rates we need to be looking at the win rates to qualify for Europe or above. To win where Aston Villa did we need to be looking at win rates of players over 52.6%. Looking at the average in our team, we can see we need some improvement on that figure.

So as you can see from our performance filter above, we use the minutes and games won to work out who to buy. The search filter is age between 20-22, players from the top five leagues and then their position. This gives us a good idea of who performs in those positions in line with our goals.
