This rebuild instalment is going to be about Barcelona FC on FM24. Up until 2020 Barcelona FC were the top team in Europe and then Covid happened, and the club found itself in trouble afterwards due to mounting debt. The club has had to scramble in the transfer market to put a team together to be competitive in La Liga.

What we need to do with the Barcelona rebuild on FM24 is turn the tide and build a selling club while being successful. This is going to take some real skill to balance the books and keep a high performance on the field.

Barcelona Objectives

So the first step of any rebuild on FM24 is to take an interest in the board and supporter objectives. Without following these objectives you are fighting against the tide, but they will give you direction if you follow them. These objectives will be the foundations on the rebuild culture that we aspire to.

So let’s take a look at the board objectives. I think it is fair to say, they know the style of football that they want to play. They want attacking football which means either Tiki Taka or Gegenpress styles, they want possession football so both of those suit and they want entertaining football which normally means high tempo. This means we are playing Gegenpress football.

The next thing that they want are high reputation players. Now a lot of people will assume that this is dangerous with the current financial predicaments. In the same thought process, Florentino Perez was once questioned about how expensive David Beckham was to buy from United. He actually said the Beckham was one of the cheapest players he has ever bought because of the income he generated after signing.

Now looking at the supporter objectives we can see that they align with the board on style with the attacking, entertaining and possession based football. They also like high tempo pressing, which confirms that we can play a Gegenpress style.

In terms of the league they want us to be up the top and give it a real good go. On the way we need to get a higher reputation than Madrid and beat Espanyol if we play them. These are all fairly straight forward objectives.

Our next move is to organise our team and understand who our key players are for the Barcelona rebuild on FM24. The way in which we do this is by using the assistant reports to measure the abilities in the team. This is where we start creating a standard, while the league average is 2.5 stars our team will need to have at least 3 stars. Anyone above three stars is seen as a key player.

So looking at the key players, surprising we do not have many in this squad. The ones that we do have are mainly over 30 which means their time is limited in our squad. The good news is that they make up the spine of the team, all in central positions. These guys are our foundations this year, and I think it is fairly obvious to see a 433 or 4231 developing.

Looking at the squad players we can see that they will complement the key players in a 4231 tactic. We have a good selection of wide players and also a number of high potential youth players. The future looks bright, but seem to have a small squad, this will change over time.

Barcelona Tactics

Now we need to put all of the assumptions above together and create a tactic for our rebuild with Barcelona on FM24. This is where we start in order to go on and build for the future.

The first area I always start off with is how do we score goals? Lewandowski is an absolute goal machine when he gets going. We had the choice of the deep lying role where he drops deep and the inside forwards crash the centre. instead I have put him in an attacking role as I want to take advantage of his goal scoring ability.

We also have Pedri sliding balls through and Gundogan making runs between and links in midfield. This team is going to be dangerous on the attack and at home we should be absolute monsters.

We will now look at the defence, firstly we have Gavi playing as a ball winner and a screen. We need this as the wingbacks will move forward to support the wide positions when the inside forwards move about. The centre backs are both physical, but we will play with one ball player and a centre defender. It’s that straight forward to be honest.

Barcelona as a rebuild on FM24 are going to be a great game. They have such a rough time losing players over the last few years and scrambling a team together. This is a great opportunity to go in and design your team the way you want to play.

The strength of the team is the midfield, it is full of fantastic talent and players that are going to be great. The style of football will suit these players and at home I think they are undefeatable. The weakness is the lack of depth in the team, this could be an issue with suspensions and injuries.

The opportunity is the youth set up, there are some great players coming through and using the youth system there could be plenty more coming through. The threat to the team is that everything is on the line, so if you do not keep up with the objectives the team will suffer.
