Wolves Objectives
Wolves have had a number of quiet years, they aren’t pushing up, but they haven’t been looking to go down. This is an excellent opportunity for any budding manager who would like to push a team that has solid core already. The board are only interested in keeping the club financially watertight. Work within a budget and try to improve on last year to grow the reputation of the club.
The supporters are a difficult bunch, they want you to sign high profile players while developing players using the youth system. We will be fine if we recruit fantastic youth players, but I have the impression that isn’t as common as they think. What this means is that it will be costly. Additionally we could buy high reputation youngsters, that causes it’s own problems.
The playing entertaining football is easy, Wolves FC already have entertaining players. We will expansive attacking football, which brings it’s own caveats like the high line meaning we need fast defenders.
Wolves FC first 11
So taking a look at the top players in the squad, according to current ability. We can see that there is an abundance of good full backs, we know that we don’t need that many. So the next move is to work out which full backs we want, and then sell the rest and free up some wages according to our objective.
The good news is that having good defenders and a goal keeper gives us a solid base to work from. As well as that, we are identifying early that we will play with a flat back four, which gives us some options for formation. Now we need to start looking at the rest of the squad.
Due to the number of wide players in AML/AMR it’s an attacking tactic developing, and all the wide players are wingers. So this means that a big part of our supply to the forwards is coming from wide. Both of our forwards are quick and good at finishing, Silva has better heading, but Hee-Chan is just abit better right now.
Looking at the squad, the defence is in a good position. The midfield has potential, so as always we need to support them with a youth system and coaches working with youngsters. We have an established forward in Hee-Chan and Silva is up and coming, they will both be rotated.
This is how I figure the team will look at the moment. Cunha is a hot prospect and I’m looking forward to seeing how he does. I’ve decided the a winger on one wing and an inside forward on the other to see who performs best. Once we see one role outperform the other then we will double down.
Wolves FC Tactics
This is an easy for me. We have a small and fast team, this means we can run a pressing game. This is essential in the top leagues, you have to recover the ball as soon as possible. It works against slow passing as you can pressurise them, and it works with faster passing as it forces them to make mistakes.
Currently I haven’t put a preference on where to pass the ball, but with the type of forward we have keeping the ball on the floor is important. The advanced forward can run onto balls played through too. It’s actually a very simple strategy, which I’m sure Wolves FC will excel with. The midfield is designed to keep passing the ball forward and is very attacking, leaving the DM out is exposing the defence though.
Conclusion
The strengths of this team are the defence and goal keeper, they form the core. This team designed towards passing the ball through to the advanced forward. The main weakness of the team is that we have a lot of players who play the same position, so they are wasting wages.
The opportunity for the Wolves FC is the potential in the midfield and attack. With the nurturing and support, they will develop into fantastic player over the years to come. The biggest threat, is that I am not sure how this team will be funded. Budgets are low and Wolves FC are not as rich as other clubs in this division.
