The club everybody loves to hate
Tottenham over the years have had a lot of slack. While they may have been called bottlers in 2016, they have been amazingly consistent over the years.
This is the last instalment of the day one series, so I just wanted to say thank you for your support so far. The way this series works is that we have been taking over each Premier League club and then offer our insights into how we would set them up. The biggest problem most new mangers face, is that they do not know they’re best eleven. This guide will help you.
Tottenham over the years have been very consistent, they always finish around the top 4 getting at least Europa League football. They have had so very good players such as Luka Modric, Son Heung-min and the legendary Harry Kane. Unfortunately, a lot of these great players move on as there is a lack of success at Spurs. We are going to change that.
In this guide, you will find everything you need to know to get started with Tottenham Hotspur on fm24, including:
- What objectives do Tottenham face and why they are important.
- The different types of players and how they work in the squad.
- Tips, tactics, and best practices to succeed with Tottenham Hotspur on fm24.
Read on and let’s see how we can build on this great club!
Team objectives
This is where you start to put our strategy together. I need to be aligned with the objectives and the culture of the club. This will shape some of how we play, because if we don’t we are giving ourselves unnecessary pressure to start with.
Without further ado, let’s look at the supporter objectives. So they want to qualify for Europa which should be easy with a squad that achieves it every year. They want entertaining, attacking and possession football, which is pretty straight forward. The attacking football means we must play a positive mentality, possession football means playing tight attacking formations with short passing and both will result in entertaining football.
Developing players by using the club’s youth system is good, as it means buying young players for the youth team, as well as developing the ones that you already have in the youth team. On FM24 focus on upgrading the youth facilities and also the coaching staff, make sure that motivate and are good at working with youngsters.
As for the rivals, they are in the league and are competing in the same market you are. Make sure you finish above Chelsea and beat Arsenal. Both are fierce rivals and without beating them you are not progressing the club.
Now the board seem to have other ideas on running the club. They seem to be very focussed on youth and the future. They do not want to get stuck with any turkeys over 30 and are willing to be patient to see how the under 23s get on. Other than that they do not seem to be bothered about your performance.
Tottenham Hotspur first 11
The next step in the day one process on FM24 is to filter your team into key players and squad players. Key players will shape our team and the squad players will fill the gaps. We do this by sorting the squad by their current ability, anyone over three stars is a key players, anyone under is a weak spot and will be dealt with.
Tottenham have a a small selection of players available as key players. The good news is that they all seem to play in different positions and roles. The bad news is that we seem to have players in conflicting positions. We have a DM, MC and AMC. Now would normally be looking at a 442 diamond if we didn’t have the wingers.
The jury are out on the formation at the moment, with a slight lean towards the 4231. Moving onto the rest of the squad will give us a better picture of what opportunities we have.
So we have a clear four man back line available and goal keeper, which is a trend in the Premier League. Another noticeable point is that there is very little width with Tottenham on FM24. This means that the team will have to set up in a central formation with the width coming from the wingbacks in Porro and Davies. Time to start thinking.
Tottenham Hotspur Tactics
The next step is to put everything we have discussed so far into practice on FM24. We need to be attacking, playing possession football and be entertaining. The board have put no restrictions on us in terms of tactics so there is no concern there.
I’ve gone slightly crazy and gone with a 4222. The reasons for this is that we have a lack of width in this team, which is a shame for an attacking team. As well as that all of the key players can play in this formation. It is very attacking and entering for the fans. The firepower we have with Son and Richarlison is crazy too.
As we have very little width, we don’t have to worry about crossing and high balls. The balls will be kept on the floor and slid through to both strikers. Richarlison can drop deep and let the two advanced playmakers fill the void. It opens so many passing patterns around attack I think. I am going to try and sell this to you I reckon.

On FM24 Tottenham are a consistent team that do not seem to want to push forward. Happy with Europa, this is not an ambitious club. It does have a solid squad with a couple of superstars like Son. I would look at keeping the consistency and start ringing in the young players in the hope of pushing forward in the future.
I feel the main strength to this team is that it is a solid squad. The defence is well stocked, additionally the midfield has options which can be used. The weakness of the team is the lack of width. While I have opted for a narrow 4222, over time you will want to spread the play wide and buy some talented wingers.
The opportunity for the club is to push on at some point with the youth you are putting together. There is an excellent base to launch yourself from and create a team that will challenge for the league. The threat is that the board never wake up to the smell of opportunity and instead turn into a selling club.
