Who upset PSG?
Lille have been hanging around the top of the table for a while. They won Ligue 1 back in 2021 and have since not repeated the feat. Let’s win this title!
Welcome back to another edition of managing in Ligue 1. This guide has been created to manage each team in the french league and provide a guide to get you started. The main problem for many new managers is that they do not know who their first team are.
Lille are an interesting club to manage as they are the team that has broken the PSG dominance. This means that they can do it again and win another title on FM24. While the team has changed slightly, can they propel themselves to champions again, let’s see what we can do!
In our guide, you’ll find everything you need to know to get started with Lille, including:
- What objectives Lille have and why they are important.
- The different types of players and how they work in the squad.
- Tips, tactics, and best practices to succeed with Lille.
Let’s push on and win this league with Lille!
Lille objectives
Our first step as with any build on FM24 is to look at the board and supporter objectives. This helps us to identify any limitations that the board or supporters put on us, whether tactically or through recruitment. Ignore these at your own risk, as soon as things start to go south you may not have any backing.
Let’s look at the board objectives to start with. For a top club, I am surprised that there are only a few objectives for Lille. The good news is that objectives that they do have are positive, they want to grow the club’s reputation. This is achieved through winning titles, buying high reputation players and forming strong links with feeder clubs.
The board are also managing the growth of the club through working with the wage budget. They are keeping at eye on their projections so they do not become a victim of their own success (Leeds anyone?). As well as that you need to qualify of Europa, this is important for the cash flow of the club. All in all they want to grow and grow well.
Looking at the supporter objectives there isn’t a lot here that we haven’t seen elsewhere in the objectives. Qualifying for Europa is not a stretch, you already start in Europe with Lille on FM24. This is a maintaining target, so this tells us the club wants slow but assured growth, like a blue chip company. As for Lens, we should always be looking to beat our rivals.
Lille First 11
Our next step is to look at the personnel available and sort them. This will help us to build a structure for our tactic on FM24. We use the assistant reports in order to sort the team, anyone under 3 stars is at risk, anyone above is a key player and 3 stars are the standard. As we do not have any match data this is the only system we have in place.
Looking at the key players, we can see a clear structure starting to form and potentially strategy. We have the attacking side to a 4231 picking itself, we just need to look at the squad to see if we can fulfill the formation. I haven’t managed a team that is this defined on FM24, easy formation to pick.
Moving on to the squad players we have our back four! As well as that we have a team of back up players for the midfield, our only problem is a lack of forwards. We will have to play the MC version as opposed to our DM version because of the players available. There is also a lot of potential amongst some the youngsters too.
Lille Tactics
Now it is time to put everything together, all of assumptions and feedback. This is the most important part as we will be training a team to use a tactic that we believe can win Ligue 1 on FM24.
I always like to start from the result, how we score goals and work back through the team. The formation was easy to pick as the squad are set up to play 4231. With a talent like David we need to play to his strength, and that is his pace. The 4231 is a central attacking formation, it has two wingers, one we have made a inside to overload the half space and the winger to push and pull the left back.
Defensively, we are at risk. As we are playing MCs, we should be playing full backs to balance the defence. Potentially could inverted so that the join the centre of defence. We are a bit exposed with only 3 defenders, being the MC and 2 central defenders. Let’s see how this gets on with Lille!
Get started with Lille today
Lille will be a great challenge for someone who wants to challenge for the title on FM24 with a team which is not the favourite for the title. Lille have done it in the modern past so they can do it again. The board are focussed on growth at a measured rate, so in a couple of years it is possible.
The strength of the team seems to be the attack, how defined the 4231 in the team just shows how well designed this team is. This makes it easier to build a squad and reinforce the positions that you have.
The weakness of the team is strength in depth in defence, we have very few full backs in the team. This position just needs some investment in case of injury.
The opportunity for the team is to open the door to new players, better reputation players with better ability. This is if we push in Europe and in the league.
The threat is that we do not look after the finances of the club. We do not want a repeat of what other teams have done and overspend on players that underperform.
