We started from the bottom
Las Palmas have a tough year ahead of them in La Liga on FM24. Predicted to finish bottom, this mission is about survival and pushing to remain in the top flight.
Welcome back to another edition of managing in La Liga. In these guides we will manage every team in the Spanish and give you some ideas on how you can manage that team. The biggest problem for new managers at a new club is that they will automatically know their first eleven.
In this guide we are taking control of Las Palmas. They are in for a tough season being predicted to finish bottom of the league. As everyone knows, we love a relegation bound team and Las Palmas fit the requirements. They have spend a lot of modern history in the Segunda division, with a few streaks in La Liga. Our objective is make them a permanent fixture in the top league.
In our guide, you’ll find everything you need to know to get started with Las Palmas, including:
- What objectives Las Palmas have and why they are important.
- The different types of players and how they work in the squad.
- Tips, tactics, and best practices to succeed with Las Palmas.
Let’s push on and see how we can make Las Palmas even better!
Las Palmas objectives
So our first step is to acquaint ourselves with the board and supporter objectives on FM24. The idea behind this is that we can understand the club identity. These objectives give us guidance on how to build the right strategy for everyone. You can either this as positive or a negative thing, but ultimately these guys dictate if you have a job.
Wow! How many objectives do the Las Palmas board have on FM24? In this instance they have been good enough to let us know what sort of playing style we will use. They want us to play attacking football with possession based tactics, which is good as they go hand in hand. Entertaining football tends to fall into that category too as it is regarding high tempo football.
This is also a club which is looking to the future, developing players through the youth academy and buying players under 30. When linked with the objective sign players to sell for profit, we need to be looking at the youth players. We need to be signing players between 20-22, the reason is that they have high potential, but it is not totally realised and because of that they can bought cheaper.
In terms of building the reputation of the club, we need to be successful in the tournaments we are in and buy the highest reputation players that are available.
The good news is that after looking at the supporter objectives, they agree with the board……mostly. The main criteria here is to look at the objectives that marry up and focus on them. Play attacking, entertaining and possession is wanted by the board and supporters so it is how we will play.
Las Palmas First 11
Our next step in putting together our strategy is to sort our team out and form our first eleven. We do this by sorting the squad into three groups using the assistant reports. We start with the players over three stars which will be our key players, then the 3 star players who are our squad and the players under 3 stars which are players who are not good enough.
Any player under 3 stars with a high potential of at least 3 stars will be kept to develop. This could mean through playing games against weaker opposition or even going out on loan to get experience.
Let’s start by looking at the key players. Straight away it’s good to see that we have a player in the first team with five star potential. Alberto Moleiro will be getting more playing time than most as he is a key player with high potential. The midfield look like they have a good shape which is a really positive sign, potentially a 4 or 5 man midfield. There are no strikers at the moment, so we need to see how we will score goals.
Looking at the squad we can see that we now have a complete back four with a goal keeper. This team is looking more and more like a 4231 or 442 attack. Unfortunately there is no sign of a striker yet, this that we have low quality and low depth in the strikers department. Due to this we cannot use the striker as the main threat, and need to look around the squad for other opportunities.
Las Palmas Tactics
So let’s start putting all the information together and see what we create! This is the section where is comes to life for Las Palmas on FM24, I must say I do love the kit colours too.
Let’s start from the top, how are we scoring goals in this tactic? So a lot of the time my striker is my key man, not in this tactic though. Cardona is an under 3 star player, there is no way I can rely on him to take us from victory to victory. As a result I have found my wingers to be a bigger threat on goal and have given them inside forward roles.
Cardona will drop to pick up the ball and drag a defender with him to disorganise their defence. The inside forwards will then overload the centre of defence and become a threat on goal. The advanced playmaker is going to be linking up and causing carnage with aggressive passing plays.
I have gone with a deep lying playmaker in midfield to keep some shape and help defensively, he will be pushing balls to the wingers or the forward. the ball winning midfielder is there to screen the defence and then pass the ball off.
We have gone with full backs as have MCs instead of DMs and that brings stability. I’m going to try attacking full backs as they have the full length of the pitch to run into once the inside forwards cut in. I think I will probably scale back to a support role, but with an attacking mentality I was looking at adding more attacking roles.
Get started with Las Palmas today
Las Palmas on FM24 look to be one of our typical relegation survival challenges that we know and love. While they have a media prediction of 20th I firmly believe that they are capable of a lot more. This is case of taking a team from bad to good and the canaries need to be represented!
The strength of the team is the midfield, there is actually some really talented players in this unit. To make the most of them we have started with a five man midfield being more strength based. The weakness in the team is the strikers, there is no depth and very little quality. It is an area that needs investment desperately, if an area is going to hold you back it’s this one.
The opportunity with Las Palmas are the younger players, and the desire to focus on bringing younger players through. While i understand a team of this stature is a selling club, it is nice to know you are producing talent. The threat to the team is that we underperform and get relegated, that will set the club back a number of years. This means that there is very little room for error.
