Derby County objectives
The first step in our journey to setting up Derby County on FM24 is to understand the club, the supporter and the board objectives. This is where we create our journey, and start to create a culture around the club. The way we do this is by looking at the board and supporter objectives and assessing the restrictions or focus they bring.
Looking at the board objectives, they are pretty straight forward and what I would expect from a club that is looking to be self sustainable. When developing players through the youth system, it is important to create a culture. We need coaches that are great at working with youngsters with a good head of youth development at least. You can go the whole hog and recruit your scouts for potential ability.
Playing entertaining football is an interesting one, this normally indicates they want high tempo football. This means we have a number of styles available such as gegenpress, wing play, route one, direct and fluid counter attacks. In order to choose a style, we need to look at the pace of the defence. With that we can then look at a comfortable defensive line for the team.
After reviewing the Derby County supporters objectives on FM24, I was surprised. While one of the most supported clubs in the country, the objectives look a little thin. Either way, they are interested in building a culture revolving around youth development. This means that the youth facilities will need upgrading, coaches with working with youngsters, a top head of youth development and scouts that can scout potential.
Derby County First 11
The next step is to look at the team to build our structure with Derby County on FM24. We use the assistant reports as a guide of who our key player are, as well as squad players. As always we use 3 stars as the standard and anyone above 3.5 stars is a key players.
Looking at the key players, we can see that we have quite a few and that they cover a number of positions. We have a definite back four, potentially a 4231 DM developing. This gives us our basic structure of out formation, with the number of DMs we have it answers itself. It’s the attacking side that needs assessing.
When seeing the rest of the squad it opens up a number of possibilities. We have a range of positions covered and have players with great potential ability. We have width in the team too, a 433 DM looks possible with an advanced forward.
Derby County Tactics
The next step is to review all the assumptions that we have made above and put it all together. The great thing about Derby County on FM24 is that they have a so many options available. While there is a lot of pressure on the team to get promoted, I think it is very possible.
I went with the 433 as includes all the key player positions and the squad fill in the other options. The team have a solid back four with the DM, all of which are better than the league standard. That means that we have a great base to build from. The main focus is the attack and how that can work in our favour.
The wide players are wingers and will naturally look to stretch the play and cross the ball in. We need to look at forwards which have good heading to finish this great service. Also we have a centre midfielder on an attacking role to support the lone forward.
Get started with Derby County today
Derby County on FM24 are a club that need a positive experience after all the financial messes in the last ten years. This comes from hiring and firing so many managers and eventually not achieving their objectives in the Championship. It will be a difficult challenge, but I can see this being a rewarding one.
The strength of this team is the defense, all of the back four are key players, with a top DM in front and a solid GK behind. This does not mean go defensive, as that means the team will not be so proactive. The weakness of the team is the forwards, they are limited in number and none of them are top players. This will need investment as the position is so important.
The opportunity with the team is to take advantage of the youth great facilities and youth players. The future is here and we need to build a culture around that. The threat is not being promoted in the first season, and I think it will put a strain on the club and board breathing down your neck.
