Let’s get Blackpool FC back into the EPL!
Blackpool FC objectives
So the first step in taking our FM24 fallen giants back to the big time is to see the objectives of the supporters and the board. With these objectives we will get to understand the culture and philosophy of the club. This will affect how we recruit and the tactic we build.
Straight away we can see that board is focused on youth. This means that we will need to recruit younger players and develop them through our facilities. This means we need to get a decent head of youth development and coaches that work well with youth.
The other part of the strategy is to get the best scouts in who can spot potential ability in players. This has a number of knock on effects, we will have players that get bought by bigger clubs before we get to the EPL, make sure that you include profit percentages or percentages of the next deal. This will help you invest when they are sold on.
Something that is unusual is that the supporters are not bothered about the youth, they are more interested in the style of football being played. They are insisting on entertaining football, this relates to playing high tempo football, and this gives us a number of choices.
Blackpool FC First 11
So our next step in reviving our fallen giants on FM24 is to meet the players and decide who our key players are. We do this by using the assistant reports to sort the players by current star rating. Players over 3 stars are key players, players under 3 stars are on the way out and anyone 3 stars is a squad player.
Once we know who our key players are we can structure a formation around them to play to our strengths.
Looking at our key players, we have a great range of positions. It’s a shame that we have two great right backs, but we may be able to move them into new positions. The good news is that we have two forwards, a goalkeeper and half a defence. There is potential for a number of different variations of the 442 at the moment, let’s see what the squad indicates.
So next we will look at the squad players and what positions they play. The good news is that we have a big squad of players, and that means there are options available. AS above we have a number of different variations we could play around a 442, either narrow, diamond, attack or even flat. The good news is that we also have a complete defence now too.
Blackpool FC Tactics
The final step in managing our FM24 fallen giants Blackpool FC is putting everything together. This is where everything comes to life, where our theory develops a face so to speak.
Let’s talk about the overview of the tactic to start, we had a number of options available with high tempo, such as wing play, but we opted to go with gegenpress. The reason for that is because of the structure we had, the 442 attack is an attacking formation and so we needed an attacking strategy. The good news is that with four forwards we can press an opponents whole back line as a unit.
Let’s look at how we will score the goals next. We had a choice of either AF and DLF, or going big man, little man. I am going with the target man and poacher to use their different strengths and making the roles linear and easier to play. Finding good deep lying forwards in this league is hard work. The other thing you will notice is that we have two wingers. Their job will be stretching the opponents wide to try and make some space.
Defensively we have a few options, I am going to try the two MCs and wingbacks, but if we have problems with leaking goals I will change to full backs. If that doesn’t work we can drop the midfielders to DMs and have the wing backs again.

So you can see, managing Blackpool FC is going to be a fun FM24 fallen giants save idea. They have plenty of options in the squad and you can prioritise different attributes. This means you could sort your squad by potential ability for example. Additionally you could look at the mix of different positions available and build a new formation.
The strength of the team is the depth that they have, at the is level it is impressive. So this means we have options on how the team is built. The weakness of the team is the lack of wide midfielders. While we have built a wide formation we only have one winger on either side, we will need to invest.
The opportunity of the club is endless, create the youth system, use it as a revenue stream by selling players. I would look to focus on the youngsters to get the early results and invest back into the team. The threat against the club is failure, with such a big squad you can see how it can go so wrong. The finances put pressure on the results.
