Galatasaray used to be the undisputed champion of Turkey, with legends like Buruk Okan and Hakan Sukur. Let’s get them dominating the Super Lig again.
Welcome to the next episode of the managing Galatasaray in the first season series on FM24. This is part two of the season guide so far and the results of the season. We wrote previously on how to set the team up at the start of the season to help you get started.
I have always had a soft spot for Galatasaray and FM24 is no different. Once upon a time they dominated the Super Lig and represented Turkish national team throughout the squad. Either way, we are looking to take them back to dominating the league, going from good to great again.

- We will look at the tactics which have been used.
- Where the team will go next.

Galatasaray results on FM24
So this is where we discuss how Galatasaray have done when measured against the board and supporter objectives on FM24. It is key for us to understand how we are progressing in line with their expectations, or otherwise we are doomed. Data such as the league table and results will give us a good indicator of how we have got on.
The main observation to make here is that we annihilated the league, winning fairly easily. I find it funny how Trabzonspor had the season of their lives and kept up with us. Just to put it in perspective we broke a number of records and they weren’t far off.
There are so many good indicators here for us, we scored the most goals, conceded the second lowest, lost only three games, and our goal difference was out of control. We broke a number of records like goals scored, wins in a season and most points.
There is very little to improve here, but we there is always something to improve on. We were very close to becoming invincible, two silly losses and one against a rival. Any improvements we are going to make are only going to be slight improvements as we have already succeeded. Our next objective will have to be conceding the least in the league.
Individual Performances
The next step in our results breakdown is the individual performances. This is where will drill down and find out which performances make a difference, good or bad. Now that we can see the bigger picture, we need to look at the contributing performances for Galatasaray on FM24.
So my first observation is the number of players that are playing over a 7 rating, it is truly a sight to behold. This shows how competent the players are playing in their role. When we look at some of the other key performance indicators we can see why they are playing well.
Looking at the Xg data, we can see why we scored so many goals this season. When we run through the list, a great number of our players have scored more than their expected value. Some of the stand out stars are, Akturkoglu (+4), Yilmaz (+5) and Icardi (+12). Despite being 31, Icardi is attracting interest across Europe from the big clubs.
Whne going through the pass completion test of 85%+, the majority of players are doing what is asked of them. The defence are looking at 90%+, wing backs are 85%, the midfield are around 85%. The wingers are the only ones which are not achieving it, this could be to do with the number of crosses they put in. One way to combat this is to play work ball into box.
Galatasaray tactics on FM24
So this is where we discuss the tactics that we used with Galatasaray on FM24. We tend to use the tactic that we developed in the day one guide and make adjustments as we go along. We will discuss any changes made or any future changes.
The 433 is one of the most common formations in football, and is very versatile. This tactic is based exploiting the gegenpress style, with the high press it puts defenders under a lot of pressure.
We have a pressing forward that will lead the press and the inside forwards will cover the interception. The art of it is pushing the opposition back and pin them in, forcing them pass over the top.
When scoring goals, our forward will drop back and the inside forwards will cut inside and overload the central defenders. As well as that the central midfielder will push up and the wing backs will push into the space vacated by the inside forwards. To stop through balls we could look at faster defenders and also a to reduce the width, this will reduce the space for through balls.
Conclusion
Galatasaray are a fantastic opportunity on FM24 for someone who wants to dominate a league. They have some interesting players, but there are plenty of opportunities to invest.
The strength of the team is the forwards, the three of them combined well and performed to a high level. This league has no answers to containing, so you will have a some real fun.
The weakness of the team is the defence. I have changed the team, but when you first start out there is a lack of depth, so if you are going to get suspensions or injuries it’s going to cause problems.
The opportunity here is the amount of youngsters, there are so many out of loan that when they come back some will have developed and be pushed into the first team squad. The other opportunity is that we could look at a Turkish player only recruitment policy. This is because of the number of restrictions on squad numbers.
The threat is that being a big club in a small league, if you do not succeed in your ambitions then the knock on effect is going to cripple the club. We have all seen this in real life and it can lead to a spiral, just check out the rebuild clubs.
