Fulham have always been seen in Chelsea’s shadow. They have tried to push out of that shadow a few times and not quite succeeding. Could this be it?
Welcome to another edition of how to manage a Premier League team in the first season on FM24. The concept of this football manager 24 guide is to manage each Premier League team and play them throughout the first season. This is will be made up of suggestions and recommendations of how to manage the team in the first season.
In this guide we are taking control of Fulham FC. Fulham FC have always been a favourite club of mine, they flew through the leagues at one point to get to the Premier League. I remember the legends like Saha, Berbatov and Malbranque(?). Over the years they have been a bit of a yo yo club, they need some consistency. - We will look at the tactics which have been used in Football Manager 24.

Fulham FC results
In this section we look at how the team have performed so far this season. We will look at the general data of which teams we have beaten or struggle against. We can use it to generate ideas of which teams will play well against or even if we are better home or away.
This season with Fulham FC has been unreal. We started so poorly against Man Utd and Arsenal, then we took off, beating Liverpool and going on a nice run. November was rough again losing, two out of the three. Then it picked up big time in December including an 8-0 win over Sheffield United.
Words cannot describe how well we have performed. From losing the first two games of the season to being 4th in January pushing for a Champions League spot.
Looking at the table, we fully deserve to be near top of the table. We have a strong positive goal difference, scoring nearly 2 a game and conceding less than 1 a game. We have won the majority of the games we have played. It is looking very rosy going into January and the board have given us more money to buy players.
As an additional comment, the defence is really good. It has been a strong as any defence I have used on Football Manager 24. Really looking forward to seeing what we can do by the end of the season.
Individual Performance
In this section we will look at the individual player performance of the team on FM24. I will only keep it to basic data as I could write reams of theories and ideas on player stats. I use this data to go granular on a general problem in the team or to highlight a potential problem that is coming up.
I’m really surprised that Fulham FC are playing well above expectations does not have more players playing over a rating of 7. The main note here though is that the great defence is represented through Diop and Adarabioyo. Both of these guys are so good and make for a solid backline on FM24.
Looking through the usual Xg stats. You can see that a lot of players are smashing their targets. There are very few players that are not fulfilling there Xg, and the ones that are under are not first team players.
Jimenez, Bassey, Traore, Decordova-Reid, Vinicius and Willian are all having a bad time with passing completion. This is a concern as they are mainly attacking players, so indicates that attacking plays are breaking down. In turn that means that the opposition could counter and at least turning the ball over.
Fulham FC Tactics
In this section we talk about the tactic that is being used and if it has changed. The tactic we use is from day one series for the club as the team has already been assessed. Sometimes the tactic will change, as we do get it wrong from time to time or we see it being more effective.
First things first, our striker Jimenez does not score enough goals in this formation. Although he has scored 7 goals this season, 4 came in two games. The inside forwards are creating a lot of opportunities to different players, like the midfielders. To create opportunities teams tend to push the ball wide where they have space and score in central positions.
The defence has been brilliant and it is in no small part down to Leno. He has been unreal in goal and has great defensive triangle in front of him. Palhinha has been impressive when he is not injured. The guys at centre back – Ream, Diop and Adarabioyo – are so solid and goof to rotate.
Conclusion
Fulham have been the best footballing team I have used so far. Even with Liverpool I did not have a team which was this good at football. The fact we have reached the top four in the first season just shows how good this team actually is. I’m looking forward to the rollercoaster that is coming up in the second half of the season.
The strength of Fulham FC is the defence. It is so solid, especially in the central defensive areas with Diop and Adarabioyo. Leno is fantastic in goal and it is easy to see why analysts think he is the best keeper in Europe. The weakness of the team is the forward. The strikers are not clinical enough to take the team to the next level and will never by challenging for the golden boot.
The opportunity I can see with this club is that there are some young players to build the club around over the next 5 years. The threat of Fulham FC on Fm24 is the financials of the club, can they competitive with the big boys. This means that if they cannot find the cash they may end up being a feeder club and moving away from winning.
