Leeds United objectives
The first step is to find out who Leeds United are on FM24. The way in which we do that is by looking at the objectives of both the board and the supporters. These objectives will help us to create a club identity so we know where to push our team going forward.
Board objectives
Let’s start with the board objectives as they are the people who can make or break our career. To be honest I am surprised at how little the board have to say, after all they are a club that needs to get back to the EPL. The main thing here is that the board are deciding on your recruitment process. They want you to buy players that you can sell on for profit.
How do we buy players to make a profit? This recruitment process was a big hit at Crystal Palace over the years. We need to be looking at the transfer list and buying players who are undervalued. With this we can offer quality players a way out from big clubs where they are unhappy. Once they are in they can do us a favour to get us to the next level and then we can sell them.
The next strategy is to buy young players, not too young, but between 20-22. Under 20 is too young as a lot can wrong where they do not recognise their potential. Over 22 is too close to peak where you will spend premium money to buy a player. 20-22 is a good place to recognise potential, while paying up to 20% less than peak value, leaving you to sell them in their peak.
supporter objectives
The supporters are more ambitious, they want Leeds United back in the EPL. They want entertaining and attacking football, which is something we have covered a number of times. Gegenpress and Tiki Taka football are the order of the day in terms of style.
The interesting point here developing players using club’s youth system. We need to analyse the staff such as coaches and scouts. The coaches need to be good at working with youngsters and motivating. The scouts need to be able to spot potential ability in transfer targets to keep rich vein of talent flowing. The other staff role is the head of youth development, we need the very best in this position.
The bottom line here is that we are creating a culture, something to take forward and win the Premier League one day.
Leeds United first 11
The next thing is to start defining who the first team are and how we are going to play them. The way we do this is by looking at the key players, we do this by using the assistant reports.
We define the key players in the team as players who are rated over a 3 star rating. The squad players are anyone rated over 2.5 stars as that is the average and anyone under that has no future at the club.
First impressions on this squad is that they are far too good to be playing in the Championship. There are so many players rated over 3.5 stars, it’s pretty much a team of superstars. After we take away the player out on loan, we can quite clearly see a formation taking shape. It looks as though we could quite easily play a 4231 DM with this team.
Moving onto the rest of squad we can see that we can fill the remaining positions with good quality players. The main observation is that the team are much stronger on the right and the squad players fill the positions on the left. This means we could play the ball down the right more than the left.
Leeds United Tactics
This is the part that we put everything together that we have discussed so far for Leeds United on FM24. While there are a few parts still to play with, we have set the style of football, the formation and the majority of roles in the team. This includes the players that have created the first team.
In terms of scoring goals we have one top striker in Piroe. We will seek for him to drop back using a deep lying, complete forward or false nine role. This will mean he will drop back pulling a defender and the inside forwards will crash through the centre. The AMC will look to slide through balls and join the party putting the centre under intense pressure.
Defensively the full backs will push forward to protect the inside forwards positions against a counter when they vacate them. Both the DMs will be there to protect the centre and screen the centre backs. The problem we will face here is putting the opposition under so much pressure they will try through balls over the top.
Get started with Leeds United today
Leeds United are going to be a fantastic team to manage on FM24. They are young in age and strong in ability, it is hard to think anything other than they will win the league. This team has so much potential ability and will go on to be able to compete with the Premier League teams.
The strength of the team is the overall strength it has. Almost the entire first eleven is better than the league average and has the potential to be even better. The weakness in the team is that there are so many talented players in the team it is going to be hard to play them all. You are going to need to know your first team early and trim the fat.
The opportunity with the team is that you could create a culture of creating a conveyor belt of great talent and make so much money to reinvest in them youth. The threat is that if you do not go up in the first season you could lose a lot of great talent due to financial pressures. This could result in losing talent at cut prices.
