The upstarts of the league
Brighton have been creating a wonderful football project for the last few years. They’ve performed so well that the richer clubs have signed a number of their players.
So this short series is where we start a game with each team in the EPL and give a short guide as to how we would play the team. Each team will have a guide on how to get started with them on FM24. The problem for managers with some teams is they have too much talent, but don’t know how to play them.

Brighton objectives
Let’s look at the supporter objectives to start with. This is where we start building our strategy for the team, our identity. The Brighton fans have been very buoyant in the last few years as they are performing well and playing good football, plus they have got into Europe.
The supporter objectives on this game are nowhere near as demanding as I thought they would be. Recording a top half finish is literally par for the course, they are going to do that without much of a push anyway. There needs to be more ambition for the club. Beating Palace is straight forward, although both clubs are in a similar position. Just beat them.
The board’s objectives for the club are a little more interesting. They are looking to buy younger talents that they can develop for the first team. This is pretty standard within the league. So we need to build a wide scouting system that will scour the Earth prioritising youth players. We then need to develop our coaching system and team to focus on young players.
As we know from previous blogs, buying players in between 20-22 means that you have a better idea of potential then younger players. It also means that we get players cheaper than when buying them when they are in there prime. It’s a sound strategy for a selling club again.
There is definitely a lack of ambition in this club, the board want to ‘maintain’ the reputation. This is strange after the great progress they have made recently in real life. Either way, board believe this team to be a selling club, so build a scouting and coaching system and play young players in the first team.
Brighton First 11
Let’s take a look at the current ability stars of the squad and work out who the key players are. Straight away we can see there are a large number of key players in the squad. It’s also very obvious that we will be playing four at the back and an AML, AMR and AMC. So a 4231 is on the cards. Obviously we will favor Mitoma over Fati in terms of playing to develop him.
So basically a lot of the team seem to pick themselves. Let’s move onto the rest of the squad and see who we have. We have a number of player who have great potential, Ferguson and Pedro will rotate to find the best striker. We also have alot of AMLs which means someone needs to be shipped out.
Due to the number of MCs, we will play a 4231 wide. The reason for that is the great wingers we have coupled with the number good MCs. This is a very attacking formation, so we will push for more than the board are asking. I’m particularly looking forward to the battle between Pedro and Ferguson, to see who wins that.
Brighton Tactics
Where to start! What a great team we have available, Ferguson or Pedro up front, Mitoma or Fati on the left wing. The great thing we have here is three attacking midfielders that will supply a potentially world class forward. We are going to keep the ball down and pass it through to the forward.
The next big thought was the backline, it’s a fast and stable defence. The goal keeper is the only weakness in my opinion, so in the future we will look to buy a new. Obviously with this formation, we have no one shielding the backline, a ball winner will help, but it’s not a DM.
As it is young fast team will we close down high up the pitch and try to squeeze the opposition. Hopefully they will make mistakes under the pressure from the front four. A high line will help support this.

Brighton are a great team to start with. They have so much potential going forward with a young team. They are in Europe already and have the capability of playing some amazing football.
The highlight strength of this team is the attacking midfield, their is so much ability to create and score from there. The Mitoma/Fati, Gross and March midfield is a fabulous partnership. The big weakness to the team was that we have a number of older players in the team that we can move on and replace with younger players.
The opportunity here is to use the potential available in the team, while the board want to sell, we could use this potential to spur the team onto to better things. The threat is the same thing, if the board stick to their guns and want to sell the best players, the team will be stuck in a vicious cycle and not achieve anything more.
