Brentford FM26 Team Guide – Rise from Underdog to European Contender

Real Life Moneyball

Welcome to the Brentford FM26 team guide! I am a big fan of Mathew Benham and his principles, this will be a good one.

In the Brentford FM26 team guide we are going to map out our best team, look at our wonderkids, build a tactic and dominate the league……hopefully.

By the end of this guide you will have deeper knowledge of how to manage Brentford.

Brentford FM26 Club Overview

Our first step to building our Brentford FM26 team guide is to understand the board and supporter objectives. We want them on side as we don’t want them turning against us. We need to use the objectives to our benefit instead of an obstacle.

Let’s look at the Board objectives first:

  • Play Attacking Football
  • Play Possession Football
  • Sign players from the lower levels of the domestic game
  • Do not sign players over the age of 29.
  • Play high tempo pressing football

This is a team that has clearly identified the style in which they want to play, which is no surprise knowing who the Chairman is. Attacking football is known to be the thing that wins games with shots and chance creation. Possession football is the same, it’s a dominance over the ball. High pressing tempo is the style adopted by the Premier League is very successful.

It’s interesting that they want to sign players from the lower levels in the domestic game. This shows that there is a lot of talent potentially in the lower leagues which can be developed. This is also a cheaper way to sign players.

The supporters also want attacking football and high pressing football which indicates a gegenpress style is required. The other factor they are looking at is entertaining football which is achieved through chance creation, again Gegenpress or Tiki Taka.

Brentford FM26 Squad Guide

Key Players

This next part of the Brentford FM26 team guide is dedicated to identifying and focussing on the key players. We need to know who they are to then build a formation around them all and paly to their strengths. Being strength based is how we win this.

It’s nice to see a long list of talent at a club, this means that it is balanced and we have options across the board. We have quite a few players on 3.5 stars, which means we have a solid team, but no superstars as such. As the trend tends to be the squad easily fits a 4231 and with the strong full backs we’ll play the DM version.

Best Youth Prospects

Let’s move on to the youth prospects in the team. We will follow the same process here as we did with the key players, but using the potential ability stars instead.

It’s nice to see that we have a long list of talent here, but also that the potential ability mirrors the current ability best positions. We also have a couple of top talents in Kayode and Yehor Yarmolyuk. Both are very good in a Gegenpress system as well.

Brentford FM26 Wonderkids & Young Talents

While not an essential section, I have included the wonderkid list in the Brentford FM26 team guide to raise the awareness of the talent at the club. Brentford have a decent list of wonderkids which can be integrated in the years to come. They are:

  • Ethan Laidlaw
  • Kim Ji-Soo
  • Benjamin Arthur
  • Jayden Meghoma
  • Yunus Konak
  • Josh Stephenson
  • Romelle Donovan

Donovan is one that was talked up in the summer, have some fun developing the team and you may be rewarded.

Brentford FM26 Tactics & Best Formation

So here we are, the tactics section of the Brentford FM26 team guide. This is where we put together all of the data in the previous sections. This tactic will align with the goals and expectations of the club.

The first thing to notice is that we have gone with the Gegenpress tactical style as it fits the profile of the board and supporter objectives. As well as this it is the tactical style most used in the EPL. It also fits with the 4231 formation that we gathered from the key players and youth prospects.

The way this tactic works is one of the DMs push into AMC creating a 5 man attack. While this happens the full backs tuck in to the DM position creating 3 man screen in front of the defence. This is quite a simple transition and can be used for standard passing.

This shape works even better if you use the FM26 433 transition model.

Transfer Recommendations for Brentford in FM26

Positions to Strengthen

The main area that I can see that needs strengthening in the Brentford FM26 team guide is the strikers. Unfortunately, Brentford have sold most of there attacking assets in the summer including Wissa and Mbeumo.

Due to the nature of our Gegenpress tactic if you want to search by attributes I recommend Work Rate, Anticipation, Aggression, Acceleration and Stamina.

Potential Signings

Two signings that fit the board and supporter profile are:

  • Josh Sargent, Norwich
  • Joe Taylor, Huddersfield

While they are not the best on the market, they fit the recruitment profile that the club want.

Brentford FM26 Save Challenges

The Brentford FM26 team guide will be mostly useful for a rebuild challenge. Due to Brentford selling some of their most prized assets in the summer, they need to rebuild the squad again. The media prediction of 17th says it all, it’s potentially a relegation battle coming.

Conclusion

Talking of rebuilds, I never thought I would be saying this about Brentford who have lost some vital assets over the summer. I suppose if the money is right you’ve got to say yes and reinvest it in other players. Either way they lost a couple of high performing attackers and now replacing them.

I had go with the Brentford FM26 team guide to see how it would do over the course of half a season. It was a very up and down half of a season, but by Christmas we are 9th which is better then the media predicted 17th. This isn’t the same team as last year and it feels a littel vulnerable, but we have ways to change that.

Whatever you choose to do with Brentford, have fun, they are a fun team with interesting players, not the normal signings and they do a good job.
