The city of champions!
Man City are the dominate force in the EPL, winning the Champions League proved that. Pep has created something special, how do we take that further on FM24?
Welcome to the next episode of the managing Man City in the first season series on FM24.
So what do we say about Man City? Quite possibly the best footballing team in the world ever. I think there have been far more entertaining teams, but in terms of innovation and skill they are amazing. The team that Pep Guardiola has built has brought purpose and style, winning isn’t enough, it needs to be done perfectly. What can we do next on FM24 with Man City?
In this guide we are going to:
- Look at the end of season league performance and individual performances.
- We will look at the tactics which have been used.
- Where the team will go next.
Read on to see how we developed Man City even further on FM24!
Man City results on FM24
So here we are, this is where we speak about the team performance and measure it against our goals. We can start to draw some conclusions from the team stats which we can then action. We can see how Man City compares on FM24 to our rivals, in how many goals we scored and conceded.
First Half of the Season
Looking at the results from the start of the season, you can see we have dominated from the start and won every game to November. Not only that, but we have beaten teams of every level, apart from Porto in the Champions League, that was something else.

There;s not much to say here, we have the best team and have beaten everyone apart from Liverpool and Man Utd. This could mean that we struggle against big clubs, but I think it was more to do with the number of injuries we had and how many games we has. I also believe the team are getting better as we go on, dispatching lesser teams more easily.

Looking at the league table, we are unreal, apart from the blot of a loss. We have a huge goal difference, conceded less than one a game, and scored nearly three a game. The Man City stats on FM24 are crazy, and I’m not really sure what I will do with them after this season. Overall it has been plain sailing, a few injuries, but the team are performing well.
Second Half of the Season
Straight away you will notice we won the league, well trounced it actually. This was one of the easiest games I have ever played. We won every trophy apart from the Champions League where we got knocked out by Barcelona in the quarter finals. We ended as top scorers, least conceded, 13 points clear of Man Utd with a huge goal difference.

While this was sheer domination of the league, we still lost 3 games which is 3 short of invincible. No other team got even close to scoring as many as Man City with over 100 goals, heading towards averaging 3 goals a game. They conceded is even more impressive, conceding the least and less than one a game.
What impresses me the most is that we won 32 out of 38, this is a win rate of 84%. Although this is still not perfection, for a first season it is an incredible stats. For next year we need to focus on winning all games and getting further in the Champions League.
Individual Performances
In this section we will discuss individual player performances and what certain stats can mean. I also like to maintain standards throughout the team meaning that we use organic averages to push the standard higher. With Man City on FM24 the standards are already very high, this will be interesting.
First Half of the Season
This team have been incredible. The first thing you notice is how many players are playing over a 7 average rating. Even the ones that aren’t are not far off. Everyone is playing there part and it’s easy to see why we are performing well. When you have talent like Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden you expect results.

Looking at the data available, you can see that most players are exceeding their Xg and showing their quality. Foden and Rodri slightly below par, which causes slight concern in a success model. We will look at the roles they have and what suits them to start with.
In the passing test, we can see that Erling Haaland, Mateo Kovacic and Phil Foden are not passing well. I’m really not bothered about Erling Haaland as he is a goal scorer and not a creator, and he is fulfilling his role well.
Kovacic could be a cause for concern as he plays as a box to box, keeping an eye on him. Phil Foden on the other hand could be a bigger problem at this level, while I like in real life, he may not fit this team.
Second Half of the Season
Look at the amount of positive green on the average ratings! We have 15 players playing over a 7 rating, meaning the team have played exceptionally well. You will also notice we have new member in the team being Kylian Mbappe. The board gave me £270m to spend in January and I just couldn’t look past him.

Starting with the passing completion stats we can see that everyone is beating the 85% standard other than the two strikers. Bearing in mind how well they are both performing it doesn’t concern me as their jobs is to score goals, which they both do well.
Moving onto the Xg stats, there are a lot of players which are out performing their Xg rating. Haaland is over by nearly 6, Silva is over by 3.5, De Bryune over by 2 and Grealish was over by at least 3. Some impressive performances.
We have another £230m to spend this summer, so I think it may be a case letting the over 30’s move on. Then we will replace them with any youngsters ready for the first team. As well as this I will buy another world class players to keep the board happy.
Man City tactics on FM24
This is where we speak about the tactics we have used on FM24 for Man City this season. This has been an unusual save game due to the fact we changed the formation to fit Mbappe into the team, what? You think you can leave him on the bench? We started with the tactic we developed in the day one series.
As you can see with have gone with a very narrow formation, pulling the wingers into the centre. To my surprise, Man City do not have many naturally wide players in the team and no depth. Luckily the common place is that they all play in AMC in one way or another. The forward was obvious, as Haaland is the best striker on the game, we just need to create for him.

As you can see from the Xg stats we definitely created chances for Haaland and he gladly put them away. Interestingly Kyle Walker was our leader in terms of assists, this shows the impact of the wide areas.
Looking at the team after January we obviously had the addition of Mbappe, which posed it’s only problem. We were always going to play him, but how? So I dug into my tactics collection and found that the Tottenham tactic was definitely an option. This tactic is not too dissimilar to what we were already playing.

We took an AMC out as I saw the assists were coming from DR and AMC. The worry was taking some creativity away to put in another goalscorer. This tactic was really attacking and needs some tweaking as well as a few new faces to get us to where we need to get to.
Conclusion
This Man City save game on FM24 has been extremely fun, I mean who doesn’t like winning all the time. I feel that I have put the entertainment into Man City, but we need to complete the perfectionist journey that Pep Guardiola has started.
The strength of this team is the team. Every position has fantastic player and there are no obvious positions that are desperate for a new player. Every player is geared towards being the best in their role.
The weakness of the team is not obvious at all. There is a lack of width in the team which is normally associated with more defensive teams. If you wanted to expand the play wide it could be easily done. This would bring an extra dimension to the attack.
The opportunity in the team is to buy the best players in the world. You have the resources to do what you want and buy the best players in class. There is no signs that this team cannot keep this up, they could dominate for a while.
The threat in this team is too much change. The problems are that you have couple of key players coming up to an age where they could be moved on. You also have the constant temptation of spending money on players even though you don’t need to.
I hope you enjoyed this guide, now go and start your journey with Man City on FM24. Please comment any feedback below.
