The history is rich at this club
Liverpool were a very successful club in the eighties, one of the best to walk the Earth. Unfortunately, after that they haven’t managed it again until now….
Welcome back to another enthralling episode of how to manage a Premier League team. How this football manager 24 guide works is through managing each and every EPL team and suggesting and recommending how to set up and manage the team. The reason for the guides is that a lot of managers struggle to identify their first 11 and how to play them.
In this edition we are playing with a team that I particularly enjoy on football games – Liverpool. They have a rich and wonderful history, and since the Klopp era have pushed back in to the title race and even won the Premier League. Also if you want to see our day one guide you will find it here. There is a bright future here, let’s see if we can ignite it!
In this guide we are going to:
- Look at the league performance and individual performances.
- We will look at the tactics which have been used in Football Manager 24.
- Potential transfers and areas of improvement.
Read on if you want to be part of the Liverpool success story!
Liverpool Results
In this section, we look at the results that we have achieved so far in the season. This provides some general but useful insight into what teams we struggle with and which ones we succeed against. As well as that it is good benchmark to see how we are getting on with goals and conceded on football manger 24.
First Half of the Season
As stated previously, I love playing with Liverpool on football games, they are always so good. This season is no exception, they are a great club in terms of stadium and resources, large staffing group, and a fairly large and young squad.

We had a great start to the season and we went 14 games unbeaten. There were some good results all in all as well as a few games I felt robbed, 1-1 with Forest is one to mention. Losing to Tottenham was bad too, not only do I hate Spurs, but they did actually outplay us. Let’s move on the league table.

I can’t believe that we are only 3 points clear, but that is where we stand. We are averaging a scoring rate of 3-1 to display how amazing we are in front of goal. The biggest achievement is that we are one of the lowest conceding defences, but Man City have played two games less. We are the top scorers in the league and only have one loss. It’s been quite an incredible start to the league you could say.
Second Half of the Season
First things first, this has been one of the most competitive seasons I have had on FM24 so far. In FM24, Liverpool have a hugely entertaining team and went on to win 29 games from the 38, that is a 76% win rate. Man City kept up with us for the whole season. If you look back to the previous guide you will see that we had a slight advantage, but they had games in hand due to the World Club Cup.

This has been one hell of an impressive season with the number of goals that we have scored, we hit the century and more. We nearly averaged 3 goals a goals and conceded just under 1 a game. As a result the goal was +77 and the highest in the league. So far the keep performance indicators show why we won the league.

Looking at the Xg data is sometimes misleading, just because you have created more chances does not mean that you will score more. That is a numbers game approach for the hard working. Creating less, but of a better quality, ie better positions will create a higher Xg and in turn highlight quality players.
Individual Performance
In this section we start to analyse on a basic level what the performances are like for each player. On football manager 24 it has become easier to look at stats and analyse them through the filters and even the data hub. This can be used to highlight the top performers and under performers in the team. As well as that it can be used to intervene in potential tactical problems.
First Half of the Season
Wow, just wow! When looking at the average ratings this team is tearing it apart. There are 12 players that are playing to a high level, over a 7 rating, which is incredible. Unfortunately, big Virgil is out for the rest of the season more or less, but Konate and Gomez have been brilliant. The most interesting point here is to see how well the defence and goal keeper are performing. We are playing a very attacking tactic and it seems to benefit the defence, the best form defence is offense.

Looking at the XG to start, the majority of players are pulling their weight and more. Only Mac Allister is not fulfilling his attacking duties, but with the team around him, I’m just picking at him, we need to push the standard. Looking into the passing benchmark Diaz, Jota, Jones and Glatzel all fall a little short. The thing all have in common is that they are all forwards, so is the most probable put of the pitch to lose the ball.
Either way, while the team is performing the way it is, there is no need to rock the boat too much. Work on the small problems and then you can snow ball.
Second Half of the Season
he great thing about the screen shot below is the amount of players that are playing above a 7 average rating. This is a good indicator the each player is doing his job and that the tactic is well suited and balanced. To finish a season on 7.2 and above is really special and shows the quality of this Liverpool team on FM24.

Let’s look closer into the stats, using the Xg we can gauge the quality of our players at scoring. Diogo Jota is doing an amazing job with a 4 goal difference, but when you compare him to Darwin Nunez who is doing a 6 goal difference. we are seeing a higher class. This is an easy gauge of players that score goals where the probability is lower on the pitch.
Another interesting find is that Joe Gomez has a much higher goal tally than what is expected of his positioning. Just because his ratio is better the other players does not mean we should put him up front, but it would be interesting to see how he scored those goals.
Liverpool Tactics
In this section we discuss the tactic being used, how it works and why we chose this strategy. We will be using the same tactic from the Day One guides that we have done previously. Tactics do change depending on performance, but again we need to continue to push the standard.
We went with the 442 Attack, which suited the types of players that ewe had at our disposal. I wanted to make use of the forwards and wingers that we had available. On football manager 24 this can be a dangerous tactic to use as it is so attacking and without a DM. What we want to do with this team is score lots of goals.

The way in which we achieve this is with two strikers. Simple logic is two strikers, more goals and two different avenues to score through. We will harass the opposition into making mistakes and turning the ball over. Then this will feed any one of the four forwards we have. The art of this formation is holding that centre midfield position.
As we have so many attacking forwards the defence will be stretched and the wingbacks will be forced to play in support roles. This means that the wide gap will be filled by someone, which is important on the inside forward side.
Conclusion
Liver pool have been the most fun and best performing team so far. There is a good chance that we will continue on this rich vein of form and win some trophies. One of the biggest surprises was that Salah is under performing and is coming off the bench as a result. This could make a transition to his replacement easier.
The strength of this team is the forward line. Diaz, Nunez, Jota and Gakpo are amazing. It took a little while to adapt, but they are just going from strength to strength. I had to build a tactic to include them all. The weakness in the team is the midfield, there seems to be a lack of ball winning or defence minded midfielders.
The potential to this team are the youngsters. There is a lot of talent coming through, with a great youth system at a great club. In line with the objectives, the team are youth focussed, you would be silly to go against that. The threat to the team, is a small squad. There are only a number of players available who are first team ready at the top level. If you lose them to injuries, like we have with Virgil you lose a lot of quality.
Start your journey today with Liverpool and we promise you will not be walking alone with our guide. Let us know in the comments how you are getting on with your Liverpool team.
