Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5 Picks (2025/26 Season)

Introduction

This week people seem to be loading the bases for Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5 with the big teams. This means they are missing the value in Bournemouth, Wolves and Sunderland.

Once again we have another interesting week coming up, plenty to talk about, like will strikers get their revenge this week or will the defence come out on top again?

Best Premium Picks for GW5

As always let’s start with the premium players, the big stars at the big clubs. So the conversation always starts with the Haaland or Salah debate, or both if you can get away with it. This week sees Haaland away to Arsenal and Liverpool at home to Everton.

Of the two games for the Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5 our model says Liverpool win against Everton easily and Arsenal beat Man City. Judging by what has already happened it is easy to believe the judgement of the data model.

As a result this weekend I am going heavy on Salah in my Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5 teams. He is an outstanding performer and so far this season he has made the difference in Liverpool’s games as we saw in GW4.

Best Mid-Priced Picks for GW5

Let’s move onto the core of the team now, the mid card players. These players are the ones which make up the majority of the team, they need to be consistent and score the average points.

This week looks a bit different due to the teams that the teams the model has picked to win their matches.

Arsenal – Rice and Hincapie – I’ve gone for a complete midfielder in Rice and then a risky choice in Hincapie. Rice is going from strength to strength, he is involved in every Arsenal do and he likes a set pieces too. Hincapie, we are just waiting for him to have his first game and get going.

Liverpool – Wirtz and Szoboszlai – I know we have been waiting for Wirtz, but we are starting to see some real improvement and touch of class. He just needs that confidence boost of a goal or assist. Szoboszlai has been a bit of a hero in the last few weeks, so on form he is on trend.

Fulham – Iwobi and Robinson – I know, I know I’m getting boring constantly promoting Iwobi, but I honestly think he is the one that makes Fulham tick. Going forward they are lacking any key parts apart from Iwobi. Robinson on the other hand is a class act and a full back that contributes to all areas, plus a good chance of a clean sheet.

Bournemouth – Adrien Truffert and Semenyo – two obvious choices, Truffert looks good so far, attacking full back and at home in the new back line. Semenyo is Semenyo and was one of the best players in the league last year, expecting good things driving Bournemouth forward.

Best Cheap Picks for GW5

So this is a new section for me, it is the section where I recommend budget players that could earn you some points and the make……prizes for Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5! I have consulted the model and added a economic valuation of each player. So here are the top ten:

  • Ladislav Krejčí, Wolves, £2.5m
  • Mateus Fernandes, West Ham, £3.3m
  • Adrien Truffert, Bournemouth, £2.3m
  • Yeremi Pino, Palace, £3.3m
  • Omar Alderete, Sunderland, £2.6m
  • Jackson Tchatchoua, Wolves, £2.7m
  • Morgan Gibbs-White, Forest, £3.8m
  • Ryan Gravenberch, Liverpool, £3.6m
  • Chrisantas Uche, Palace, £3.4m
  • Elliot Anderson, Forest, £3m

As you can see there are some great players which undervalued and not owned by a lot of players. Don’t get me wrong, these aren’t as good as Haaland and Salah, but they could do you a job with the weeks in between.

GW5 Fixtures to Target

The fixtures to target in the Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5 are based on our data model.

Let’s have a look at what it says.

Strong Wins

  • Liverpool to beat Everton
  • Arsenal to beat Man City
  • Fulham to beat Brentford
  • Sunderland to beat Villa

Medium Wins

  • Tottenham to beat Brighton
  • Bournemouth to beat Newcastle

So the model has given me plenty to work with here, whereas some weeks it has so many close games.

Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5 team line up

Players to Avoid in GW5

There are so many injuries in the Sun Dream Team GW5. Saka, Odegaard, Ben White just from Arsenal, lucky they bolstered their squad in the summer to cope.

Ekitike and Isak are big risks this week, after seeing Isak line up during the mid week, it casts a lot of doubt over the minutes Ekitike will get. It’s looking like he could be an impact player, which is a risk in it’s self. Who knows who is going to start? THat’s a risk not worth taking for me.

GW5 Differential Picks

In this section I pick three players that could be the difference this week in their fixtures or individual performance.

Semenyo – The difference at Bournemouth. This guy is immense in every game he plays and is a player that drives Bournemouth forward. Semenyo was great against Liverpool and they are at home this time. Ignore him at your peril.

Omar Alderete – A new signing at Sunderland, has fit in seamlessly in the defence and could be a threat at set pieces. There is potential for a clean sheet here and as a result it makes him useful.

Jackson Tchatchoua – An interesting choice who has the minutes for Wolves. This weekend is probably one of the few weekends that the model is confident regarding a Wolves win or clean sheet. Tchatchoua is good player and adds to every point scoring aspect of your team.

Conclusion

This week is an interesting week in terms of the Telegraph Fantasy Football GW5. There are a number of choices available, but remember the opposition and also how many domestic cups your player is in. Maximise your opportunities and you should get even more points.
