Building the Palace walls
The Crystal Palace rebuild on FM24 is really starting to take shape. We are starting to see minor successes with the team forming an uptick in fortunes.
So here we are with the next part of the Crystal Palace rebuild on FM24. After setting down our objectives in the last blog, we put it into practice. It’s great to see when these objectives come to life in the Premier League and start making changes in the team.
Let’s refresh ourselves on our objectives again:
- Move on the over 30 year old players and focus on youth players.
- Look to strengthen the defence after leaking so many goals.
- Prepare the club to focus on youth development.
Read on to see how we are getting on with the rebuild!
Rebuild results so far
So the first thing that we need to look at for our Crystal Palace rebuild is our schedule. This will show us how we are progressing against certain teams and we can compare this at the end of the season. We will also look at the league table to see how we are progressing so far with some key performance indicators.
As you can see we opened up with a really tough set of fixtures with Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Liverpool in the first 6 fixtures. So as you can imagine, I wasn’t holding out much hope with a team which was adapting.
To my surprise we beat Man City and drew with Liverpool and Man United. These are bonus points in my world.
As we have been going along, we have been getting more and more green dots for victories. This shows that the team have been adapting and gaining cohesion with their new team mates.
Let’s have a look at the league table after 15 games. The first thing to notice is that we are 7th in the league already and not far behind the top four. We are averaging 1 goal conceded a game which is a big improvement on last year. Overall, it is looking very promising.
Rebuild recruitment
The recruitment strategy that I decided for the Crystal Palace rebuild on FM24, was to search for players aged between 20-22 to develop youth using our facilities. We then added that they needed to be playing in the top leagues in Europe, so France, England, Spain, Germany and Italy as they are the highest quality leagues.
We then used win rates to dictate which players we wanted to buy. To push the standard we wanted to buy players who had over 50% win rate as the teams who qualified for Europe managed this.
We calculated the win rate by the number of minutes the player had played and the number of wins they had. This gave us a basic understanding of who had the best win rates.
I’m going to be honest, I have only heard of Sildillia previously, but that is the fun of creating new and innovative recruitment strategies. As you will notice most of these players are defenders, this is a conscience effort to stop leaking goals. We will look at the performances in the next section.
Individual performances
The next thing we will look at for the Crystal Palace rebuild is the individual performance statistics so far. I am going to use the basic FM24 league statistics on the drop down menu to highlight performances. These gives us a good overview of what areas the players are doing well in.
Something I am particularly proud of here, is the number of players that are playing over a 7 rating. This is a real turnaround from last season and highlights the team are playing well in their positions. One concern I have is that we do not seem to score many goals at the moment.
Odsonne Edouard is our top scorer again this year, Mateta has struggled to get a footing. We also have loaned Fabio Vieira from Arsenal, who has turned out to be an assisting machine. Unfortunately, most of our new signings are taking a while to settle.
What next for the rebuild?
So we still have a few problems to sort in this Crystal Palace rebuild on FM24. We will need a replacement for Guehi who is leaving for the Saudi league. Also we need to score more goals, with closer inspection of the Xg and Xa this will highlight where the problem is.
We have let the over 30’s go, apart from Sam Johnstone who has gone on to be a great keeper. I let Henderson go on loan when I realised he wasn’t worth the £100k a week that he is on. He will be leaving for Leipzig in the near future.
So my next move is to buy a commanding centre with a high win rate from one of the top leagues and is between 20-22. He will be the chosen one to replace Guehi.
