In this section we discuss how the team has performed in line with their goals. Team data is very general data, but it still carries indicators regarding performance. We can look at data to assess what areas we are doing well in and where we need improvement.

On first impressions you can see that we just about scrambled into the top half of the league. You can also see that we deserved to finish midtable with a win to loss ratio. Our goals scored and conceded were very similar too meaning that we should finish midtable. A solid if unremarkable season at Crystal Palace in our first season on FM24.

Comparing our goals scored to other teams in the league you can see that we could have finished a couple of positions above. While our goals conceded were high for teams in the top half, this means that we need to look at our defence. We also had a terrible end to the season because of injuries and tired players.

Individual Performances

The Crystal Palace FC players have really surprised me on FM24. We had such a bad start to the season not winning in five or so games, that we had to change. As well as that a few players were injured like Michael Olise who had a major injury when we start the game. While only three player finished on a 7 or more average rating, I felt we played well enough.

Crystal Palace FM24 player performance

As you may have noticed there are a lot of new names in this squad. The main reason why we bought a number of players in January was because the squad was lacking depth and the board wanted me to sign players who were under 23. Baris Yilmaz has been really good as an impact player coming off the bench. Joao Marques has been fairly impressive in an attacking midfield role, creating opportunities.

Looking at the Xg data, there doesn’t seem to be any stand out performers, every one seems to be doing their job. This could be seen as the making of a bunch of players or just part of the adapting process. Looking at the passing completion data, it is bad. There are so many under 85%, which is a concern when you are playing possession based football. This is something to look into.

Crystal Palace tactics on FM24

This is where we look at how our strategy is formed. We tend to start with the formation we built in the day one series with Crystal Palace on FM24. As most of you will have noticed is that we changed the tactic ever so slightly, away from an asymmetrical formation. The ML and AMR slant just didn’t work and put too much pressure on two players to create.

What we have done is created a centre defence overload with the inside forwards joining our striker and supported by the AMC. It’s a four man attack and opens the door to interesting combinations. What we do have to concede here is that our 4 forwards are the attack and there is very little support. This is mainly caused by the screening of the defence by the two DMs.

Defensively we have been very leaky. There are a number of reasons for this, but I am going recruit heavy in defence for next season to shaw up some of those goals.

Conclusion

Crystal Palace FC have been a pleasure to manage on FM24. I really wanted to unlock the forwards and see what they could do. I wasn’t disappointed, but I believe that they are capable of much more. In addition to the forwards you have a lot of positions that have not been guaranteed.

The strength of this team is the attack, they are good, but could be insane. The ball needs to get forward more and this is where I stress the importance of turning over the ball. Win possession and then move it forward with devastating pace.

The weakness is the full backs. Neither side have great quality natural full backs, if this position was to be upgraded I think you would see a shift in performance. This would also add into the defence system employed and hopefully concede less.

In terms of opportunities, there is a young squad here that could be encouraged to be better. They could take the club to new heights and so the coaching team need to be good with youngsters. Get the youth facilities upgraded to the best level with a head of youth development which is a game changer.

The threat to the team is that there are some ambitious players at the club. When the big clubs come knocking it is hard to refuse the money and block the players move. You need to make the club one that players do not want to leave.
