Saving Burnley FC on FM24 is a tough ask. They are one of the new boys, with limited resources and limited ability, but with belief I think we can do it!

After an amazing Championship campaign to get promoted, Burnley FC will always have the fear of the previous Premier League campaign where they were relegated. It was an unfortunate season and it was much better than the previous Premier League campaign.

They have renewed hope now though, with Vincent Kompany at the helm and a new look team. Where can we take them on FM24?

In this guide we are going to:

  • Look at the end of season league performance and individual performances.
  • We will look at the tactics which have been used.
  • Where the team will go next.

Burnley FC results on FM24

This is where we look at the team performance against the objectives set by the Burnley board and supporters. FM24 has more than enough data to indicate to you how the team has performed. We can use the numbers from the league table for example, this confirm if we finished where we were meant to.

I must admit this was an extremely tough season, while it started well it collapsed after January. Overall we have succeeded in our mission of staying in the league, but after such a great start it feels hollow.

While it looks like we were part of the relegation battle we weren’t, we just collapsed so much from the January high. If the season went on for another two or three games we would definitely be relegated.

When looking at the win ratio and goal stats we can quite clearly see we finished in the right place. To be honest Crystal Palace were a bit unlucky, the last relegation could have been anyone from Burnley, West Ham and Fulham.

What we have learnt is that we need to score more scores and concede a lot less, simple as it sounds that is obvious. A big change needs to happen at this club over the next two seasons.

Individual Performances

The individual stats on FM24 for Burnley FC have been quite surprising. Not one player has managed to achieve an over 7 average rating. There is so much to discuss around these stats, like we didn’t have any players that scored double figures or assisted. This is a perfect example of where we have to dig deep to see what the team did do well.

Burnley FC FM24 player performance

Looking at the passing stats we have hit a our targets across the board barring a couple of players. This shows that our build up play is not the problem, it is the finishing, our forwards have a different problem. Either we have the right supply and wrong forwards, or we have the wrong supply and right forward.

Looking at the Xg rating, we can see that very few of our players actually had chances. Only 6 players actually had over 2 on the Xg ratings, this is really poor considering we seen players have over 10 and 20. To create more chances we need to penetrate the opposition, switching to a cautious strategy would help with this.

Burnley FC tactics on FM24

This is where we go through the tactics that we have been using with Burnley FC on FM24. We tend to use the tactic we developed in the day one series and then evolve it as we go along. This tactic is based on a gegenpress strategy, it is a very heavy handed version.

This tactic works by using the highest trigger point in a press with a high defensive line. The downside to this is you tend to force the opposition to play long through balls and get in behind. The way we combat this is through changing to a mid block with a deeper line. This will mean that we do not get caught out so much at the back while giving up the ground and giving them more time for defensive touches.

Burnley FC FM24 Tactics

This tactic has worked well with other teams in the league, but Foster has really struggled to continue his earlier good form. This leads me to believe he just isn’t the man for the job leading our attack. Jack Cork is also playing a vital role, but I feel he is too old to be asked to play in this system.

Conclusion

Burnley FC have been a difficult team to manage on FM24. They haven’t got access to the funds other teams have so restructuring the team is a little more difficult. The main thing is we kept in the league, and it is now time to rebuild the team.

The strength of this team is the size of the squad, injuries, internationals and suspensions are no threat as we have a big squad. This will be great with the rebuild as we can fund it with the extra players when trimming the fat.

The weakness in this team is that there doesn’t seem to be a good quality striker. We tried Foster for the main part and he underperformed and Obafemi could not hit a barn door. Reinvest in this position immediately.

The opportunity is that we have a lot of young players, a few are wonderkids like Koleosho. Build the future around them, and consequently rebuild the other positions where the older players are. Additionally we know that a lot of players hit 30 and severely decline.

The threat in the team is that a lot of the clubs in the Premier League are much bigger. What we are trying to do is build for the future, if we turn into a selling club then it will hamper our future.
