Union Berlin objectives

The first place that we must always start before building our FM24 tactics is the board and supporter objectives. This gives us a good idea of the how the board and supporters want us to play and the recruitment policy. This gives us a good guide of how to set the club up and the culture it brings.

Union Berlin FM24 board objectives

The board are not interested in the style of play that you use, they are interested in recruitment more than anything. The club seem to prioritise making the club sustainable with the wage budget and buying players from the domestic leagues. This is probably down to the stadium build that is going on, costing a small fortune.

Union Berlin FM24 supporter objectives

The supporters are on the same page as the board in buying German players. They do however have some interest in the way the team plays football. They want to make the most of set pieces which obviously limits the styles that we can use, and they are the more defensive ones.

As well as this it is so important that we get the best set piece coach money can buy.

The next step is to understand who your squad players are, especially the key players. This will give us a structure for our FM24 tactics for Union Berlin, especially the formation.

The way in which we sort the players is through the assistant reports. Anyone under 3 stars is going, anyone 3 stars is a squad player and the players over 3 stars are key players.

Union Berlin FM24 key players

Let’s look at the key players in the squad. First thing we can see is that this team is built on defence, which makes sense with the focus on set pieces. You can clearly see that the set up is a 5 man defence and potentially a DM in front. This is a defence first team, so it is important to them not to concede.

The next step is looking at the rest of the squad and what options we have available. I normally regard the players with higher potential as more important, as they will be better than 3 stars. We have a very central midfield, a lack of width if you like and as a result a 532 looks credible.

Union Berlin tactics

Our next step is to put together these FM tactics for Union Berlin. They are built on all the information we have gathered previously and we then test it out in the league.

The first thing that we need to look at is how do we score goals with this tactic. So there are a number of routes the goals will come from, the wing backs will maraud forward to supply to the two forwards. The AMC will support on crosses and thread the through balls through to the fast forwards.

We will obviously be focussing on set pieces too, so the formation has been picked because of the three centre backs at the back. These will be great for corners and free kicks. I wouldn’t normally use three centre backs when they are all strong, but the set pieces have played a role.

Defensively we are as strong as it is going to get. We have three good DCs, two supporting wingbacks with a two man defensive shield in MC. WE are going to be in control of our own half. I hope this doesn’t stop us from scoring at the other end though. Overall, I’m very happy with the way the team has formed.

Using Union Berlin for your FM24 tactics is going to be a fun challenge. This team is a bit different to a lot of the teams I have managed, there is distinct identity and it leans towards the defensive spectrum. This is will make for a interesting save game, especially with the Champions League.

The strength of the team is based around the defence. The majority of their key players are defenders and as a result we have leant into that defensive nature to make us hard to score. The weakness of the team is the lack of width in the team. This has forced us to play without any width in the midfield.
