Leverkusen objectives

So our first major area to consider when developing FM24 tactics is the board and supporter objectives. Ignore these at your peril, as it could spell a quick end to your career at certain clubs. These objectives will give you an idea of what is expected and any limitations that they may bring.

Leverkusen FM24 Board objectives

Let’s start with the Leverkusen board objectives. As you can see the board are more interesting in turning a profit from developing youngsters. The only remark they have is to play entertaining football. For me this means to play high tempo football and there is no shortage of styles that we can use.

The styles available are the gegenpress, wing play, both counter attacks and route one football. I have some ideas of the style I would like to play, but we need to see the supporter objectives, the players strengths and certain attributes.

Leverkusen FM24 Supporter objectives

The supporters are very straight forward, they know what they want. They have conceded to the big teams in the league and want to be 3rd/4th. In terms of style they are on the same page and want entertaining football at Leverkusen.

Leverkusen first 11

Our next step in selecting our FM24 tactics is looking at the key players and squad players. This will help us to decide on Leverkusen’s shape and structure. The way we do this is by using the assistant reports on the players. The league standard is an average of 2.5 stars, our squad will be made up of players 3 stars and above. Anyone over 3 stars is counted as a key player.

Leverkusen FM24 key players

So when looking at the key players, we can see that we have a lot of fantastic set of central players. There is not much width with Leverkusen to say the least, that tends to indicate a more defensive set up. It opens up for a number of different formations such as 4231 narrow, 41212 diamond and a 4222 box. The two AMCs are of particular interest, I love using more than one AMC.

When we look at the rest of the squad we can see that it is more of the same, a lot more central roles. Frimpong I think is an excellent wing back, so that completes our defence, whereas Adli can play AMC as a back up. It looks as though we are going down the route of the 4222 box.

Leverkusen tactics

So our next step in creating our FM24 tactics is to put all of our assumptions together and fill in the gaps. With this Leverkusen guide we have some more flexibility as their are very few limitations from the objectives.

So I have decided on the gegenpress style for Leverkusen. This is for a number of reasons, one is that the pace of the backline allows us to. The other reason is that we want to attack the league, so we want an attacking strategy. The 4222 box, is a bit of a fascination of mine and as soon as I saw the positions I recognised I could play it.

The goals in this team are going to come from everywhere, wing backs pushing up and crosses, forwards dropping deep while trequartistas find space to attack. We even have a deep lying midfielder to supply a different type of ball through the centre.

Defensively we are relying of attacking so much that other teams we not get the chance to attack. If they do we will counter press and then we have a three man blocking system with two centre backs and a ball winning midfielder.

Get started with Leverkusen today

While Bayer Leverkusen will not be the hardest challenge your have ever taken on, going unbeaten and winning the league over Bayern Munich and Dortmund will be a challenge. You do have a young and ambitious team and a lot of them will go on to perform great for you.

The strength of the team is the youth and mobility in forward positions. The AMCs and strikers are going to be very dangerous and we need to focus our attack around them.

The weakness of the team is the lack of depth in the wide positions. There is no chance to play wide wingers and there are only a few full backs in the team. You will need to get investment in order to play a wide style of football.
