Here we are again, building more FM24 tactics for the Bundesliga teams. So the main problem we encounter is that new managers are not familiar with some of these teams. As a result they do not know who make up the first team or what FM24 tactics to play. Never fear, our guide is here!
This FM24 tactics guide is for Heidenheim in the German Bundesliga. Heidenheim are currently starting their first ever season in the Bundesliga, this is going to be an interesting season. It will be great challenge to have a go at as you will be writing their history.

Heidenheim objectives
In order to start our journey and FM24 tactics for Heidenheim, we have to understand the board and supporter objectives. These objectives will give us some guidance as to how we can recruit and build tactics. Most clubs have some sort of style of play that they want to see, it’s just how does this help us.
Looking at the board objectives we can see that they have no restrictions on the way you want to play. They do on the other hand have a lot to say about your recruitment, so bear this in mind when buying players and how the work with the tactic.
The supporters on the other hand, they know how the team should play. Looking at the objectives they want attacking football and they want high tempo pressing. So the attacking styles available are Tiki Taka and Gegenpress. When you look at the high pressing systems, Gegenpress comes out as the most suitable. Who would have thought?

Our next step to building FM24 tactics is to assess the squad and work out who our key players are and who our useful squad players are. To do this we look at the assistant reports and set the standard. We say that anyone over 3 stars is part of the squad, this pushes the standard against the league average of 2.5 stars. Anyone over 3 stars is regarded as a key player.
The key players we have are in a great situation, they all play different positions and they can all fit in a formation. I didn’t realise that Heidenheim had such a strong squad, this will make this challenge even more interesting. We need to play to our strengths and eliminate or mitigate our weaknesses.
On this small amount of data there are so many formations that are possible. 433 DM, 442 DM or even a 442 attack. These are just examples and we now need to look at the rest of the squad.
Looking at the squad we can see there is definitely a lean towards a 442 of some variation. The good news the squad players support the same formation that the key players do. We are all on the same page and building this tactic could not be simpler.
Heidenheim tactics
Now all we have to do is put all our assumptions together to form our FM24 tactics. So where do we start with Heidenheim? The first thing is to settle on the style of play, then the formation and decide on the roles according to the players.
So let’s start with how we are scoring the goals. The team needs to play attacking football and pressing football, so we are going to be pushing the opposition to make mistakes using the gegenpress. We have two forwards so this could be very effective, especially as the two wingers will mark and stretch the fullbacks. The wingers will cross the ball to the target man so will knock it down to the advanced forward.
It’s pretty simple strategy, we know that one effective cross is worth more than 10 passes. Let’s take advantage and target the oppositions defence.
Defensively we are fairly tight, we have two centre backs and in front we have two defensive midfielders. This is to protect the counter attack as our full backs will be supporting the wingers and helping to get those all important crosses in the box. Our biggest fear here is are we quick enough at the back for the high line.

If you want a challenge to build FM24 tactics then Heidenheim could be for you. They are in their first ever season of the Bundesliga and have a fairly small budget team. The good news is that you only have to avoid relegation which is a lot easier than trying to win the league.
In terms of a strength in the team, they have a number of defenders which seem to be good. This gives you a good rock for the team and platform to build from. The weakness is that you have a fairly small squad of decent ability players, meaning the depth needs to be improved in some areas.
