Next up, World Domination
PSG are an ambitious bunch, they have some of the world’s best players, spending 100’s of millions and developing a football club in a non-competitive league.
So we are now in France building FM24 tactics in the Ligue 1. With this guide we will take over each French league club and build a tactic. The biggest problem for new managers is that they are either unsure on their first team or what tactic they can use, this guide will help with that.
So it’s the turn of PSG, an easy one I know. We should be dominated the league and every team that we face. They have some the best players like Mbappe, Asensio, Dembele and Hakimi to name a few. The pressure is real at PSG, they want to be the most reputable club in the world and win everything. I’m sure we can achieve that.
In the guide, you’ll find everything you need to know to get started with PSG, including:
- What objectives PSG have and why they are important.
- The different types of players and how they work in the squad.
- Tips, tactics, and best practices to succeed with PSG.
Read on to see how we get on with PSG!
PSG objectives
Our first step in building FM24 tactics with PSG is to look at the board and supporter objectives. These objectives give us a good idea of the club culture and some guidance of how the club wants to run. We will see restrictions and character in the objectives forming our style and recruitment.
Straight away we can see from the board objectives that there is a number of goals they want achieved. They have a lot of ambition in the club and a vision of where they want to be. In terms of playing style the only thing that they are interested in is to play attacking football. This gives us a choice between Gegenpress, Tiki Taka or even a clean state.
The supporters also have high expectations and are focused on winning the league and enhancing their reputation. Again they align themselves with the board objectives and want attacking football. We need to dig deeper in order to decide on the tactical style that we want to use.
PSG First 11
So we move onto the players in the team now, to build FM24 tactics we need to understand who our best players are and which roles we can work. The way we do this is by using the assistant reports and sorting our players as key, squad or surplus players.
The way in which we do this is by using the ratings. We know the league average is two and half stars, so our squad players need to be 3 stars and our key players are anything above that. Anyone below the three star threshold should be replaced and get another club.
Looking at the key players, we are spoilt for choice with the talent available, the name Mbappe should bring you up to speed. We seem to have a lot of great talent our wide and up top, that gives us a focus on the spine of the team in future. With key players in these positions you would be silly to play anything other than attacking.
The squad makes for interesting reading as well, according to my assistant we have at least 3 wonderkids at our disposal. We also have a number of other players that look keen to develop too. While this is a strong squad now, it is going to be even stronger in a couple of seasons with growth and investment.
PSG Tactics
Moving onto the next stage, we need to put all our assumptions together and fill in the gaps. This is where we use all of our culture, players and restrictions to build a tactic that keeps everyone working well.
Let’s start with how we score our goals. Have gone for two strikers as we have too many great strikers to ignore. Mbappe is an easy one, get the ball through to him and he will score goals, whether low crosses or through balls, even dribbling. When attacking our formation turns into a 2-4-4, with runners pulling the defence around.
I think that opting for gegenpress would be the best option as we have quick players that can counter press. We also have an average pace across the defensive line so gegenpress makes more sense that a very high line with Tiki Taka football.
Defensively we are relying on three players to do their job and do it well. The two centre backs and the ball winning midfielder. The wingbacks will be pushing up to fill the vacated space by either the inside forward or the inside winger. The deep lying playmaker offers a bit more defensive as he will keep the line with the ball winning midfielder.

Working with PSG is a different sort of challenge to what we have done in the past. Yes it could be easy, but the pressures are different, we need to win at all costs and push the club harder. The squad available is great, a couple of world class players and a number of young talents coming through.
The strength of the team has to be the forwards, what an awesome line up with a truly world class talent up front. Attacking football is needed here to take advantage of their abilities. The weakness of the team is hard to pinpoint, but there is a disparity between the spine and wide players in ability. We will need to invest in central positions.
The opportunity is the amazing amount of young footballers and wonderkids coming through, like I said there are three wonderkids. The threat to the team is as ever underachievement with these big teams. How often have we seen bigger clubs fail and they begin to spiral?
